An exceptional Regency rosewood writing box with fine quality brass inlaid decoration including stringing, quarter circles of oak leaves and acorns, an engraved brass lion on the lid and campaign flush-fitting brass carry handles on each side.

The writing surface with a splendid original red morocco leather and fine figured rosewood cross-banding. The hinged top of the box lifts to reveal reeded ebony around a rosewood pen tray, a lidded and other other open compartments including one for an ink bottle.

The lower half of the writing surface lifts as well to reveal storage space underneath with cross ribbon backing for storing letters. Behind a spring loaded strip are 2 mahogany lined drawers, one of which contains the watercolour set.
