Chippendale mahogany secretaire bookcase

A fine George III Chippendale period mahogany secretaire bookcase with carved swan-neck pediment enclosing the original fretwork; astragal glazed doors with most of the old glass intact, good fitted secretaire drawer, original swan-neck handles, panelled cupboard doors & 3 oak slides for folios; handsome bracket feet with carved scrolls.
The doors have an iron mechanism that holds the doors at a right angle so that the slots in the doors support the slides when they are pulled out.

Provenance: bears the label of the Marquess of Bute, Cardiff and Carlisle and was bought from a lodge in Scotland together with a Chippendale side table
