Smaller rocking horse by Collinson
A smaller rocking horse made by J. Collinson of Liverpool in about 1950.
The paint is original and has been restored as necessary and the tack is also mainly original; the mane, tail and forelock have been replaced.
J Collinson has been making rocking horses since 1835, but most of the ones that have survived date from the post-war period.
Collinson rocking horses can be identified by:
Rectangular (not turned) vertical pillars on the stand
Corduroy or velvet saddle tops
Vinyl 'Rexine' saddle flaps and saddlecloths
'Pin eyes' made from decorative nails (but ours has glass eyes)
Diamond shaped plywood decoration on the top bar of the stand
