Pair of George II veneered walnut cabriole leg chairs

A pair of George II veneered walnut chairs of an original colour and patina. Good bold cabriole legs & generous depth, pierced back splats; the seats covered in fragments of 18th Century tapestry; the back legs in ash.
For comparison, see Adam Bowett’s Early Georgian Furniture 1715-40. Plate 4:77 illustrates a chair with very similar front & back legs & a vertically veneered seat rail & drop in seat he dates circa 1735-50. Plate 4:110 shows a mahogany chair circa 1740 with a back splat with some similar piercing to our chairs.
European walnut was used mainly in the first half of the 18th century before imported mahogany became available. This style of cabriole leg was used mainly from 1710-50.
