Oak wainscot chair from The Old Seven Stars pub of Manchester
17th Century oak wainscot chair originally from The Old Seven Stars pub of Manchester - the name is burnt onto the front of the frame by a hot iron. Good orignal colur and patina, old seat and boldly turned baluster legs and arm supports. The slots bordering the spindles would suggest the chair originally had a lower panel but the spindles are old and have been there a long time. Their thin turned lines match those on the legs. There is also a row of daisies stamped onto the top of the chair.
The Seven Stars is believed to be the oldest licensed public house in Great Britain. Some discoveries of silver plate were made which pointed to the conclusion that, during the Cromwellian period, the premises were occupied by Charles I's troops.
