Regency rosewood sofa table probably by Trotter
A fine Regency sofa table probably by William Trotter of Edinburgh; elegant model with long slim proportions, in rosewood with satinwood cross-banding and attractive box wood inlay to the drawer fronts and sabre legs. The table has 3 of its 4 original puma head knobs and its original castors. Trotter supplied a sofa table to Paxton House, Berwickshire. Paxton House was extended in the Regency period and still retains its splendid collection of furniture by this noted Edinburgh cabinet maker; the restoration of the Paxton table can be seen on Paxton's website where I noticed its lopers were very similar to those on this table. Indeed we have had 2 other sofa tables we attributed to Trotter with similar features to this table: long hinged flaps with subtle curved ends and ash drawers linings. Provenance " Castle" Inverneshire. Width closed 37"
